Bespoke, natural funeral floristry

At Tomnah'a we specialise in bespoke, beautiful, natural funeral floristry, using only local sustainably grown flowers and foliage.

Evoking a Scottish hillside, hedgerow, or woodland glade, with materials foraged from around our farm, we can also make arrangements especially suitable for people who aren't that fussed about blooms, but love the wild places and landscape of Scotland.

Our arrangements are seasonal and change throughout the year. We have fresh flowers from April to November, and work with dried flowers and evergreen foliage in the winter months.

All our flowers are either grown by us at Comrie Croft, using natural methods (no chemicals and limited soil disturbance to create biodiversity) or sourced from local gardens in Comrie. There are no air miles with us and a much smaller carbon footprint than with imported flowers. We can create completely biodegradable arrangements for woodland burial sites.

We use sustainable floristry methods, (which means no plastics or floral foam) to make casket sheafs, arrangements for the service and reception areas, and garlands for wicker caskets. We can also provide buckets of single stemmed flowers for placing at the grave site.

Because we do not work with floral foam, we are unable to make traditional funeral tributes (letters, sculptures, pillows, etc.) We will work with you to create a beautiful, natural and appropriate tribute that is of the season and the place.

Testimonials

“I can remember only too well how lovely and reassuring it was to come along to see you both at Tomnah’a, with my daughter Fiona, just after Stewart died. And to sit with you and choose flowers for the coffin and for the upstairs of the White Church. You had such a wonderful array of flowers to choose from. We knew we were in safe hands. Not only did you produce a lovely wreath for the coffin, and a tall arrangement for the white Church, but you also produced single flower stems for family and friends to weave into the side of the wicker coffin at Strowan Woodland. Forever grateful.”

“Tomnah’a created the perfect funeral spray for my father, exceeding all my expectations. Their homegrown seaholly, globethistles and sunflowers combined with delicate grasses was simply stunning and made a beautiful focal point for a very sad day. I know my father who was a botanist would have loved the them and appreciated the ethos of locally sourced, home grown, seasonal flowers. Thank you Tomnah'a Team for your care and attention, we couldn't have asked for a better display to celebrate the life of my father.”

“We still have the gorgeous arrangement Cristy and Judith made for my mother’s service of thanksgiving back in December 2019... and still looking as beautiful now as it did on the day. It’s made up of a glorious random twiggy concoction with berries and dried flowers - totally natural and organic and importantly for us, it reflects Mum’s love of a wild garden.  Cristy and Judith are not only artists but they were also so professional and easy to deal with.”

“We were so pleased that Cristy from Tomnah'a agreed to make a special wreath for my mother’s funeral.  She listened so carefully to our thoughts about Mum and understood her deep love of her garden and of nature.   It was January, and the garden looked very sparse, however, Cristy searched through the borders and created a beautiful arrangement made from the  flowers and foliage which she foraged from Mum's garden supplemented with other bits and bobs from her own garden and Tomnah'a.

The result was a magical piece of forest floor, moss and small branches interwoven with snowdrops, crocus, hellebores of many subtle colours and little clusters of sapphire grape hyacinths..  My mother would have loved it, she would have appreciated each plant.  After the funeral we were able to carefully take the wreath apart and give everyone who wanted a little pot of snowdrops, hyacinth or crocus so that they could  plant them in their own garden as a remembrance of Mum.

As I write this, on a snowy February morning, I can see flowering under the hedge a clump of Mum’s snowdrops and I can admire the subtle purple and ivory  hellebore blooming in the borders.  I am really grateful to Cristy and Tomnah'a for this very beautiful and special way to keep Mum’s memory fresh and bright.”
